Full Text

It is stated that the monarchs of Russia and Prussia have signified to Bernadotte, that he must abdicate the throne of Sweden, on the ground, probably, that he is not of the legitimate stock. This news, if correct, furnishes a notable example of royal perfidy. They accredited Bernadotte, when they wanted his assistance, against Bonaparte, and cozened him and rewarded his services with Norway. Bernadotte's fidelity to his old chief and patron, might have preserved France from invasion and conquest. But he preferred new friends--and they are now about to punish him for his ingratitude.
