CHARLESTON, Dec. 24.
We understand that Col. Wade Hampton, of the Regiment of Light Dragoons, is appointed to the command of the military district of South Carolina and Georgia, and is particularly intrusted with the defence of the harbour of Charleston. From the talents and character of this gentleman, we feel confident of the most active exertions in completing the defence of the harbor, and in making such arrangements as will secure us from surprise, and enable us to make a successful resistance in case of attack....Courier.
