New York (ANP) -The assault case against blues singer Dinah Washington, who was charged with third degree assault for allegedly drawing a gun on a female dressmaker during an argument, was dropped from the trial calendar last week when her complainant failed to appear in court.
Miss Washington, beset in recent months with marital woes, was arrested and held on $500 bail last Oct. 21 after Mrs. Lois Green of Harrisburg, Pa., complained that Dinah pulled a gun on her. She had gone to Miss Washington's apartment to collect a $700 dressmaking bill.
However, in Felony Court last month, Mrs. Green said that she was excited during the argument and that what she saw might not have been a gun. A police search of Dinah's apartment also failed to locate the gun.
Last week when Mrs. Green failed to show in Special Session Court, a three-judge panel agreed to not press the case for trial upon motion by Dinah's attorney, David N. Dinkins. The jurists indicated they would entertain a motion to dismiss the charges at a later date.
