The Right Hon. the Lord Mayor attended by the Jail Committee laid the first stone of the new jail for re-building Newgate, under which were placed several gold pieces of coin of his present Majesty. At the conclusion, his Lordship drank success to the building, that the liberties of the people might be as lasting as that stone, and that the place might want inhabitants.
