Hollywood - (P) - Rita Hayworth said she would divorce Orson Welles after two years of married life.
The actress added they would make a joint statement as soon as Welles arrived in town.
Miss Hayworth's decision would end one of Hollywood's most storied marriages. Their romance flourished in the fall of 1943 while Welles was operating a magic show for servicemen in Hollywood. The climax of the performance was when Orson sawed Rita in half before the awed GI's.
In December of the previous year Rita had announced that she hoped to marry Victor Mature when the war was over and he was out of the coast guard. But the engagement was broken and she married Orson in a surprise ceremony in September. 1943. Hollywood circles called the incident only last year when Welles exchanged glares in a night club with Mature. now discharged.
It was the second marriage for both. Rita married Edward Judson 1937 and divorced him in 1942 on grounds of cruelty.
