Hydrophobia.

A writer in the National Intelligencer denies the efficacy of the alleged cure for Hydrophobia which has been going the rounds for some weeks. It consisted, as our readers will recollect, in opening the pustules, which were said always to appear under the tongue.— The writer says:

"The means used by the writer of the article in question are not unknown to the profession, either in this country or Europe. They have been considered, put in practice, and found, I regret to say, unsuccessful, if not altogether worthless. They were presented to the Medico Physical Society of Moscow by Dr. Michel Marachetti, and were communicated for the consideration of the medical public in this country by Doctor Sam. L. Mitchell. Many English practitioners have been unable to discover the occurrence of the sublingual tumors spoken of in the human subject. In brutes, also, which were mad, they have been particularly sought after without being detected, which proves they do not always occur. In France much observation has been made testing the efficacy of Dr. Marachetti's preventive measures, M. Magendie, of the province of Guienne, found the pustules to exist in many cases under his observation.— He treated ten cases strictly in conformity to this plan of Dr. Marachetti, and in five of them Hydrophobia occurred, and death followed."
