Aldemore Menard, 20, Of 16 Florence St., Bound Over To Superior Court For Breaking Into Putnam Garage, Taking Car.

Aldemore Menard, 26, of 16 Florence Street, who broke into a garage last week and stole an automobile to take his girl friend to work at the United Aircraft Company's plant in Willimantic was arraigned in City Court Friday morning on charges of breaking and entering and theft.

Menard pleaded guilty to the charges and was bound over to the Windham County Superior Court by Deputy Judge Thomas P. Ryan. Bail was set at $300. Unable to provide the required bonds, Menard was committed to Brooklyn Jail to await trial.

Police said that Menard broke into Fontaine's garage at 18 Bridge St. early Thursday morning and made off with a car owned by Julius Hagan of Smith Street. Later in the day, accompanied by Eugene Bellerose, he drove his girl friend to the plant of the United Aircraft Corp. in Willimantic.

He was spotted in the "borrowed" automobile, however, by Deputy Sheriff Henry Baker of this city.

Sheriff Baker trailed Menard and when the chance came took him into custody and turned him over to Putnam police. Questioned at the Putnam police station by Sergeant John Daigle, Menard admitted taking the automobile and claimed he took it to take his girl friend to Willimantic. Bellerose was linked in no way with the theft and merely went to Willimantic and back with Menard, police said.

Menard was familiar with the Fontaine garage. He had recently been employed as a driver by the New London News Company and kept his truck at the garage. At the time of his arrest, he was employed in the stock room of the F. W. Woolworth store.
