Wednesday last, in the afternoon, a rape was committed on the body of a white girl, about 13 years old, by a transient negro about 30. The infamous act was perpetrated about two miles from this city, on Milford road, attended with circumstances too horrid to relate. The unhappy girl was with an elder sister, coming to town, on whom he intended to commit his diabolical purpose, but she happily made her escape. The vile wretch was soon after apprehended by some persons who were on the road, and is confined in our gaol: being heavily ironed, it is hoped he will be secured to receive the punishment justly due to his villainy.
