Full Text

Selma, (Alabama,) Oct. 9.

Within a few days past, our section of the country has been thrown into great excitement in consequence of a rumor in circulation that an insurrection of the negro population was intended, and that plans were matured by them to murder the white citizens. The report at first appeared so plausible, that Maj. General Taylor ordered out three regiments of militia. It has, however, now turned out that the circumstances from which the reports originated, did not authorize the great alarm that was manifested; and therefore these orders have been superseded by new orders, to keep up, for a few days strong and rigid patrol by the proper Guard.
