Having noticed in your paper of the 2d inst, an extract from the Repository containing some remarks on the Maine Literary Theological Institution. purporting that "that seminary is entirely sectarian and exclusive in its views," and believing the sentiment calculated to produce a wrong impression on the public mind respecting said Institution, I feel myself constrained by regard to the Trustees of the Seminary, as well as to the interests of literature and piety, to state in reply, that such reflections are erroneous and unfounded.
It is admitted that a large majority of the Trustees are Baptists, although not distinguished as such in the act of incorporation; but it ought to be distinctly stated that persons of all denominations are admissible as students, and enjoy equal advantages of instruction.
It is believed that a large majority of the Corporation of Brunswick College are Congregationalists: and may it not be said with equal propriety that that Institution is "entirely sectarian and exclusive in its views?" But if this is not true respecting Brunswick College, neither is it true respecting the Maine Literary and Theological Institution.

Main Argument
the maine literary theological institution is not sectarian or exclusive; students of all denominations are admissible and enjoy equal advantages, despite a majority of baptist trustees, similar to brunswick college with congregationalist trustees.
