Full Text

The regiment of Pardes, or colored people, designated by the name of Numantia, who had lately gone over to the Independents, are chiefly natives of Santa Fee, and had been sent by General Morillo to Peru, when he no longer wanted their services, after he took Carthagena. They suffered greatly in their march across the country, and have been unjustly torn from their homes, it might be expected they would avail themselves of the earliest opportunity to free themselves. When they went over to General San Martin, they bound their European officers, and carried them with them.
