The Albany Advertiser of the 7th inst. states on the authority of a letter received in that city, that Mr. Reynolds is preparing for the press an account of the cruise of the United States Frigate Potomac round the world, under the command of Captain Downes. Mr. Reynolds returned to this country in the Potomac, on board of which he passed eighteen months, as private secretary to the Commodore, and has we believe, been in this city ever since the arrival of that ship. It is also stated in the same paper, that the Journal of the voyage of the Annawan, Captain Palmer, in which Mr. Reynolds sailed from New-York, several years since, to the South Seas, as well as Mr. Reynolds' travels by land through a highly interesting and hitherto unexplored portion of the Southern part of the American Continent, accompanied a part of the time by a gentleman of Albany as a naturalist, will in due time be forthcoming. We presume that the information contained in the Albany paper was derived from competent authority. Mr. Reynolds has been, we believe, a most industrious gatherer of facts, and has copious notes and journals, from which he can produce a most entertaining and valuable work. His contributions to the cause of science cannot be otherwise than favorably received.--We have seen a letter from a number of distinguished gentlemen belonging to the Society of Natural History, in which his labors are spoken of in terms of high estimation. We hope and trust that the encouragement offered in this place may be such as to induce Mr. Reynolds to publish his work here.--Bost. Cour.
