Ammunition Has Mysteriously Disappeared.

STORED FOR EMERGENCIES

Discovery Brought About By the Demonstration of the Unemployed.

BOSTON, Feb. 26.—A large quantity of prepared ammunition which has been stored in the police headquarters for a number of years is missing, and the military and police officials of this city would like to know what has become of it. It was placed there in case of any sudden call upon the state militia for service, and the key of the cell where the ammunition was stored was turned over to the adjutant general.

The loss was discovered when the inspector general of rifle practice visited the headquarters last week to inspect the condition of the stored cartridges. There is quite a monetary loss in this disappearance, and the adjutant general is wondering who will stand the loss.

It is claimed that the recent demonstration of the unemployed in this city has been the cause for general activity in military and police circles, and that the commonwealth will, at any cost, put down the first semblance of an anarchistic demonstration. Many people are of the opinion that if it had not been for the unemployed demonstration last week the loss of the ammunition would not have been found out at the present time. It is rumored that the militia are prepared to assemble at short notice at any time their services may be required.
