LOST HIS RIGHT EYE.
Painful Misfortune of Representative Page of Piute County.
Samuel L. Page, who represents Piute county in the lower house of the Legislature, is expected back shortly among his colleagues. It will be remembered, as stated in the "News" at the time, that Mr. Page was excused from legislative duty on the opening day of the current session, owing to his being about to undergo a painful operation, no less in fact than the removal of his right eye. Friends of the afflicted legislator will be glad to learn that the operation has been performed successfully at the Holy Cross hospital, and that the gentleman from Piute expects to take his seat in the House in a very few days.
The accident which has occasioned Mr. Page the loss of an eye happened early last month. A restive horse "lit out" with its heels when the representative was passing behind it with a fork of hay. The fork was driven with great force against Mr. Page's face. When the injured man came to Salt Lake for treatment it was found that his right eye was in a dangerous condition and would have to be removed in order to prevent the loss of both eyes. He was told that there was a general state of chaos in the interior of his optic cavity, disruption of the lens, detachment of the retina, etc.
Members of the House and friends will warmly welcome Mr. Page back to his seat among the representatives.
