Local JVs Lose to Chinook Friday,
Beat Havre Central JVs Saturday
The Harlem junior varsity basketball team lost one game and won another in games last weekend.
The local JVs lost a 59 to 47 decision to the Chinook JVs Friday night at Chinook, and then came through with a thrilling 46 to 44 victory over the Havre Central JVs Saturday night at Havre.
The Harlem team was cold Friday night against Chinook and trailed all the way. Chinook took a 14 to 9 first quarter lead, and then gradually pulled ahead.
The local JVs fought hard in the second quarter and managed to narrow the gap to 26 to 22 by halftime. But then the Chinook squad got red hot in the third period and moved to a 43 to 32 lead by the end of that quarter.
The Harlem squad kept up with the Chinook team in the final period, but they were unable to overcome the big lead.
The local JVs had to fight off a determined Havre Central JVs team Saturday night to win. The locals took a 6 to 4 first quarter lead, and then held a slim 11 to 10 lead at halftime.
The Harlem Kittens rallied in the third period to capture a 32 to 26 lead when the third period ended. The Havre Central team rallied in the final period and made a close game of it.
This weekend the local JVs play the Dodson JVs at the Civic Center on Friday night. The game is scheduled to start at 7 o'clock. On Saturday night, the JVs will meet the Malta JVs in the preliminary game to the Harlem-Malta contest at Malta.
