We have pleasure in giving credit to the New York Gazette for the following article :

" The London Morning Chronicle of the 8th ult. after giving the proposition of Bonaparte to loan the U.S. 25 ships of the line, and ten frigates, in case they would go to war with England--observes,
It is said, on the other hand, as a thing likely to happen, that if war should take place between G. Britain and the U. States, there would soon be a separation between the southern and northern states of the federation.?"

" The Morning Chronicle happens not to be exactly acquainted with the American character. Though we have very good reason to complain of our own laws, yet if they necessarily drove us into a war with any nation, we should, to a man, be soldiers in defence of our country. The idea of a separation of the states in such a case is completely chimerical."
