The Season—Its Prospects—The navigation of the Hudson is now unimpeded as far as Verplanck's Point, and the mild weather and the rain will soon enable the steamboats to reach Poughkeepsie. The opening of the river will be an important element towards accomplishing the revival of trade, and the spring business will then commence in real earnest. With fair weather, fair prospects will arise: and, as the earth is unbound "grata dice Veris et Favoni," men's brows will lose their wrinkles imprinted by the cares and anxieties of the preceding months, and hope and confidence beam in every eye and gladden every feature.

The influence of spring is sensibly felt in the delicious mildness of the air, and the balmy breezes which fan the cheek, while they enliven the spirits. They tell of the approach of summer—of the disappearance of stern, haggard and shivering winter—and fill the heart with new dreams, and the flattering tale of hope. In all these anticipations, our dear and fair clients, the ladies, enter largely; and the primavera gioventu dell'anno is the advent to them of gaiety and pleasure—of spring bonnets and spring fashions—of new attractions and new novels—of preparations for the Springs, with all the paraphernalia of beauty, and all the appurtenances of conquests. Saratoga, however, we suppose will not maintain its pretensions to a fashionable resort, this year, in opposition to Niagara, which recent events have invested with so much interest, and which thousands will visit, in search of the excitement of romance, and associations connected with an historic name. Every thing augurs well for a prosperous season to steamboats and railroads, and before September, the privations of the last year will be forgotten in the elasticity of soul inspired by renovated fortunes and fulfilled expectations.
