A most it Now for advice being from an old drinker, will certainly be heeded, and the soon acres of grapes planted in "this latitude" and about half million of dollars invested in the business connected with wine making will all perish for want of persons to buy and drink this "poor stuff" that "disgusts the stomachs" of such pure creatures as your Honor. But, Judge, don't you now really think you made a fool of yourself, we will not say "ass," because your ears are not quite long enough, yet you have a plenty of "Bray." You must have been foolish, to pitch into such an important commercial interest for so small a consideration, even if you did not have the interests of the community at stake. I do not suppose that the precious wines you drank made you crazy, but for some inscrutable reason you was a little "soft," to say the least, and if you do not now see yourself as others see you, you may some day. You harm no one. The more you say the better; you cannot offend us. We are not the slightest in anger, and funny, not from wines, but our own good nature. Come, Judge, now take a smile. You have often! of ten !! often!! taken a nice glass of our very nice "disgusting stuff," and you then said they were of the best quality. Oh, yes, we suppose you've been better posted lately- "very lately," as Jack Downing said about his goose. But one sentence more, and we are done. It is a good thing for old friends-and we are such-to advise one another, and as you have been doing so, we will return the compliment. The next time you use your paper to discourage a business, and parties interested tell you they do not choose to patronize such enemies, the nicest way for you to do is to not get into a bubble and boil over, but bow politely and ask some one to take a drink,

Main Argument
the judge's criticism of wine is foolish and hypocritical, as he has enjoyed it before; the wine industry is a vital commercial interest that should not be discouraged, and he should respond more graciously to opposition.
