Young, but an Adept in Crime.—Saturday forenoon last a nicely-dressed, well-appearing young man, apparently about eighteen years of age, calling himself Joseph H. Crowell, of Providence, called at the livery stable of Mr. Lanc Bennett in this village, and wished to hire a horse and sleigh to drive out in Attleboro' some four or five miles and return soon. After giving his father's name, with whom Mr. Bennett was acquainted, and giving other references, he was fitted out with horse and cutter and started off. But not returning in the afternoon Mr. Bennett telegraphed in different directions. Sunday the horse, sleigh and harness were found in Wrentham, where Crowell had sold the sleigh for $15, swapped the harness for a silver watch, and swapped the horse for another, receiving $15 in exchange. He then sold the horse he had obtained for $10, as the person did not have the money he obligingly said he would wait till next week, when he should be round again. He was asked to sell the robes, but declined, saying that he borrowed them of Mr. Bennett, of Central Falls, thus disarming suspicion. Officer Pol. Iird went out to Wrentham and found that a man by the name of Wolford had the horse, which he was rather loth to give up as it was worth at least $200; Mr. John Hawes has the sleigh and manifested a desire to have it returned to the lawful owner. The officer recovered all the property, and found that young Crowell went to Mansfield and there purchased a ticket for Taunton. Early Monday morning the officer started for Taunton in pursuit, but as yet has not succeeded in capturing him.—Central Falls Visitor.
