Splendid Home Talent in Newport.

"The Rose Girl," the popular home-talent musical comedy, that was staged at Lane's opera house Thursday and Friday night, directed and promoted by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Philbrook, was a grand success in every way, as mentioned last week.

It proved on this occasion as well as on other occasions that Newport is well supplied with good talent, and when the people want something good in the show line it can be found right at home. The young people did much hard work to make it the success that it was.

The play was under the auspices of the Ladies' Social Union of the First Congregational church, and was well received, the opera house being packed each night

The Social Union received for their share of the proceeds, $297. Mr. and Mrs. Philbrook have gone to Newburyport, Mass., where they will stage the same play.
