CIVIL SERVICE ELIGIBLES

In the Mobile, Alabama post office, a number of colored men passed the Civil Service examination and placed on the eligible list for appointment as letter carriers. Most of them are seniors to white men. This is being disregarded. They are being shoved aside and the appointments given to the whites. Attention has been called to this flagrant disregard of the Civil Service regulation, and the Washington officials are taking cognizance and have ordered an investigation. No doubt the Mobile office is only reflecting what is being carried out in other places. There have been a number of white additions to the local post-office. It is hoped that the colored men are being justly treated; if not, complaint must be made with a vigorous follow up.
