'I'll be off for Boston, now.'
'Did you get into the city all right?'
'Yes, that's all fixed.'
An Examiner man overheard the above conversation yesterday on Pine street. The man who said, 'That's all fixed,' was Isaac Trumbo, connected with the Bankers' and Merchants' Mutual Life Association of the United States. He is also connected with the Electric Light Company of Oakland. The gentleman with whom he was talking, said, when he had left: 'The matter we were talking about is nothing less than a new transcontinental railroad that has not yet had the benefit of a newspaper notice. For a number of months Mr. Trumbo has been managing this new enterprise for a syndicate of Eastern capitalists, and has just completed a new survey from Salt Lake, tapping Las Vegas in Mexico, and entering our State via a line through Nye county, Nevada. A saving of 600 miles over any other transcontinental line is claimed for it, and his expression, 'That's all fixed,' means that he has effected an entry into this city. He is now going to Boston to dispose of the bonds of the road and to commence its immediate and rapid construction.'
After hearing the above the reporter saw General William H. Brown, ex-Surveyor-General and Vice-President of the Banker's Life Association, on Montgomery street, who said:
'Mr. Trumbo is out for the day and for over Thanksgiving. He leaves in a day or two for Boston in connection with his new overland short-line, which you can put down as a sure thing.'—Examiner.
