Stop Fist Fight

WACO, TEX., May 28-(UP) -A fist fight with Mayor Maury Maverick of San Antonio as one of the principals was narrowly averted today at the Texas State Democratic convention.

As party leaders convened to decide whether Texas' 46 votes will be pledged to native son John Garner or to President Roosevelt.

Maverick met Mayor Tom Miller of Austin outside the convention hall. Miller said Maverick "tried to shove" him.

Maverick said Miller struck at him. "He missed me and hit Floyd McGown." Maverick said.

"I told him I'd meet him again some night," said Miller after acquaintances had intervened to prevent an extension of hostilities.
