THE GLOBE NOTICED AT LAST.—A DEMOCRATIC PAPER HAS NOTICED THE GLOBE'S ATTACK!

The following article is from the Harrisburg (Pa.) Reporter, the leading Democratic journal in the interior of Pennsylvania.

PRESIDENT TYLER—HIS MEASURES

We have had frequent occasion to commend in high terms of praise the course pursued by President Tyler, since he has assumed the reins of Government. We have said that we believed him to be guided and directed by the purest patriotism, and by the dictates of an honest conviction of what he conceived to be for the interest of his country. We have approved of his measures in numerous instances, and we are not yet convinced that we have erred in so doing. It is true, his signing the bill repealing the independent treasury, we did not approve. But, independent of this, he has pursued a course which has met our unqualified approbation.

We are at a loss to understand the reason of the hostility of the editors of that paper to the President. We are led to these remarks by an article in the Washington Globe of the 7th instant. We cannot understand the policy of their opposition.— They seemed disposed to give him no credit for the course he has pursued in thwarting the schemes of the federalists, and following the very course, in many instances, which Mr. Van Buren would have done, had he been placed in the same position. Even in the two vetoes of the bank bills passed by a federal Congress, the President receives no commendation from the Globe, although that paper, as well as every other democratic paper in the country, called upon the President to pursue the very course he did in regard to them. The President is also condemned by the Globe for signing the present tariff bill; the very bill, too, which was passed by the votes of same of the ablest and most substantial democrats in the country!

In the election of General Harrison to the Presidency the Democratic party expected as a matter of course that the Federalists would enjoy the full fruition of all their hopes and expectations. They expected to see carried out all those odious Federal measures which they had battled for years to put down. But in the providence of God, a far different result has been accomplished. He who would have been but an instrument in the hands of Henry Clay and his adherents, is succeeded by an original Democrat—a man of genius, independence, and inflexible integrity. And what though for a time he had strayed away from the Democratic fold—what though he was elected to office by the enemies of Democratic principles—shall the gates be closed against his re-admission? Having returned to his first love, with a full determination to adhere and carry out the true principles of Jeffersonian Democracy, shall he not be supported and sustained? Although found for a time in the Federal ranks. Mr. Tyler has eschewed all connexion with that party. He had a better opportunity to learn and understand their principles and measures, and he has abandoned them with disgust and abhorrence. He has returned to the support of the true Jeffersonian principles of Democracy.— He avows his unalterable determination to adhere to them and carry them out. He has given ample evidence of the honesty and sincerity of his professions. What motive, then, can prompt any Democrat to assail his Administration, and strive to close the Democratic ranks against his admission? We are indeed at a loss to determine.
