Champion Wrestler Says He Will Go
After Jeffries' Title,
BUFFALO, N. Y., Dec. 27. From a
farmer boy to champion wrestler
Frank Gotch now aspires to be cham-
pion heavyweight pugilist, and he says
he is going after the title now held
by Jeffries.
Perhaps some people will grin and
snicker, but when Frank Gotch starts
out to do a thing he generally does it.
"For a long time I have had this
move under consideration," says Gotch
"I have figured the whole thing out
carefully, and find that my chances of
making a win of it are good. The
heavyweight championship is some-
thing I would like to win. Some one
is going to get it sooner or later, and
why not me?
"I have beaten one after another un-
til finally the man with the title, Tom
Jenkins. Seven years ago I was a
farm hand at my home in Iowa, when
I got into an argument with Dan Mc-
Leod. We went out on the hard cin-
ders and wrestled for two hours for
$50. I was a farmer boy then--McLeod
was champion. He was the first and
last man that ever beat me. He could
not do it now. I have turned them all
on their backs, Jenkins and the whole
bunch, and there are no more. I have
accumulated wealth, and I could quit
If you think there's any one that can
wrestle, name him.
"Now let me tell you about Jeffries
I have fought some in the west, and in
the Klondyke, and I beat six men with
ease. I am no novice at the fighting
game. I will prove that later. Sup-
pose I challenge Jeffries and then go
into training like I will. I will get
'Kid' McCoy as my manager. He can
teach me the fine points. I have every-
thing else, strength, weight, youth,
power, ability to punch and the game-
ness to win, I trust.
I am going back to Humboldt, Iowa.
to adjust some of my property there.
get my ranch in shape, and then start
for California. My folks are going
with me. I will go to McCoy and make
him a proposition he can't refuse.
"Then I will settle down to hard
work to put myself in trim to do the
work I have cut out for myself--lift
the world's heavyweight title."
