The late accounts from Europe, indicate a continuance of the war between France and Austria and England.
In France the troops of the first requisition were ordered to repair to the armies; and every measure was taken to recommence the dance of death with renewed activity.
In Austria the Hungarian levy has been ordered to the frontier, and the whole line of war is reinforced.
In England the note of preparation was great;--the governmental provision contracts had been renewed for six months: the marines had been ordered on board the ships of war; four new ships of the line ordered to be built; and the supplementary militia ordered to be embodied immediately.
The British frigate Doris, of 36 guns, Lord Ranelagh, has taken, after a smart action, off Ireland, the French privateer Le Fabius, of 20 guns and 140 men.
The Landgrave of Hesse Cassel has, it is said, expressed a wish to renew his connections with the Dutch Government.
Accounts from Madrid mention that an order for the retreat of the greatest part of the Spanish troops from the Portuguese frontier had been suddenly countermanded, which had given rise to a variety of rumours, one of which was, that it was the determination of the English at Lisbon to prevent the fulfilment of the Treaty of Peace with the French Republic.
