By dispatches from Don Antonio Barcelo we learn, that he arrived in the Bay of Algiers on the 29th of July, and on the 1st of August, being joined by such of his squadron as had been separated during their passage from Cartagena, he commenced the attack at half past two in the afternoon, and kept up a heavy fire till sun set; when the bombardiers, of which 18 were placed in the front of the line, had thrown 380 shells, notwithstanding their powder was considerably damaged by wet. The next day at two they renewed the attack, and set fire to the town in two places; on the east towards the mole, which lasted an hour, and in the centre of the town, which continued burning all night. Don Barcelo had only two men killed and four wounded; and when the dispatches came away, had no doubt but he should accomplish his design, if the wind continued fair a few days. Don Mocoso, who brings these dispatches, reports, that he was becalmed on the morning of the third, eight hours after he left the fleet, that the attack began at 6 o'clock that morning, and when he proceeded on his voyage a quarter before eight, the town was again on fire, and the attack so well kept up, that he saw eight or nine bombs at a time in the air; and he thought would be more successful than the preceding days.
