Full Text
The Caterpillar Outdone.—We learn from a gentleman from the cotton region of Edisto, that the rice birds, finding that their usual food has passed the milky state, and is becoming hard, have turned their voracious proclivities to the cotton fields, and are devouring the caterpillars in great numbers. It is said that their new food does not injuriously affect the flavor of the rice birds, but they are scarcely fair game when engaged in so useful an employment as the destruction of the caterpillars.
