Extract of a letter from a gentleman of the first respectability, near the seat of government, to his friend in this town

"The President is the same good and wise man we have ever thought him, tho innumerable falsehoods are in circulation about him— As to all the stories about his secret understanding with Mr. Jefferson, and expectations from the antifederalists, I assert them all gross and malicious falsehoods. I have taken pains to trace a number that were the most alarming, and most confidently asserted, and they have all vanished on investigation."
