NINETEEN REPORTED DROWNED.
The Steamer Earnmoor's Terrible Experience—Five of the Crew Found Dying.
Baltimore, Oct. 4.—The steamship Earnmoor, Capt. Richard J. Gray, which sailed from here for Rio Janeiro, Aug. 29, with a cargo of wheat, foundered at sea in a gale, Sept. 5, and it is feared that nineteen of her crew were lost. A small boat belonging to the Earnmoor, with seven men in it, survived the gale. The men made their way to Nassau.

Struck by a Cyclone.
The Earnmoor cleared from Baltimore Aug. 29 and sailed next day. The storm which prevailed early in September struck her when she was off the West Indies. She labored several days in the heavy seas and then began to fill. The men gave up hope and on Sept. 5 determined to abandon the ship. Two boats were launched. In one of them were the first officer, Mr. Painter, Second Engineer Meldrum and five seamen. In the long boat were Capt. Gray, the first engineer, second officer and sixteen others of the crew of twenty-six men. The long boat containing nineteen men has not been heard from.

Seven of the Crew Saved.
Jos. R. Foard & Co., the Earnmoor company's agents here, have just received a cablegram from St. Johns, saying that First Officer Painter and Second Engineer Meldrum have arrived at Nassau in a boat with five of the crew.

But Five of Them Are Dying.
A later cable says the five sailors are dying. Capt. Gray and the others in the long boat may have been picked up by another vessel. Among the missing are Second Mate Stone and First Engineer Soudar. The storm that wrecked the Earnmoor was the great cyclone from the West Indies which played such havoc along the New Jersey coast in the middle of September. So far as learned the crew were all Englishmen. The cargo was valued at $70,700.
