Reading. (Penn.) Jan. 27.

Thursday night was considered by the oldest inhabitants, the coldest they ever experienced in this place. The sleighing never was known to be better than the last two weeks—and we abundantly reap the benefit of it. Our streets are daily literally obstructed with sleds, loaded with marketing of every description. Schuylkill coal of the first quality has been sold at eighteen cents per bushel. Four years ago, it could not be purchased under 45 and sometimes 50 cents per bushel. The pits are 55 miles north of this borough, and the coal must be transported by land the whole distance. A bushel weighs 80 pounds.
