Repeal of the License Law.

The Legislature of Connecticut have repealed the License Law of 1845, and in its stead, enacted one, similar in its provisions to the bill for an act which we gave in our last paper, as reported to the Senate. Well: the friends of Temperance have only to buckle on their armor for another year's campaign That any thing like backward legislation on this subject, will be endured by the people of Connecticut for more than one year, we have not the slightest apprehension. We believe that the majority of those who meet in the State House in this city in 1847 to make laws for Connecticut, will go there fully committed and pledged, if necessary, to reenact the License Law of 1845, or even one more stringent still. We believe that all true Temperance men will insist that those for whom they vote, shall be orthodox upon this point, and that no considerations whatever will induce them to overlook any deficiency here. The enemies of Temperance, not its friends, have carried this question into politics, and we must meet them on their own ground. We regret this necessity, but it is a necessity from which we cannot escape, without giving up the whole cause, and this of course is not to be thought of. The question is simply this; shall the will of a large majority of the people of Connecticut, ascertained in the fairest and clearest manner, be defeated by the tricks and treachery of scurvy politicians? For one we say no, and there are thousands of men in this State, (of voters too remember.) who will say the same.
