Full Text

Extract of a letter from a Gentleman at Baltimore, dated Nov. 18.

"The capture of Dominica it is imagined, when known in London, will create more confusion, and be productive of more bankruptcies, than any event that has happened these twenty years past. It is certain many of the first settlers in that island set out on speculation only, some of whom having met with success, lured others on to their ruin. The assistance of the London merchant was then called in; so that, at the time the island was taken, it owed more than it would sell for at publick sale.

If the people of this state will now exert themselves, there may soon be another Burgoynade, in the southern quarter of America."
