Full Text

PHILADELPHIA, May 18.

The celebrated Baron Trenck, who suffered ten years imprisonment in the dungeon of Magdeburg, by the old tyrant of Prussia, that scourge of mankind, is arrived in France, from Hamburg. This man was shut up for the above period of years, with a crust of bread, a jug of water, and his tomb-stone constantly before his eyes; the inscription only legible, by the faint glimmer of day that was admitted!

A writer in the Virginia Herald (who signs himself Hamiltonian) fearing that many persons might be at a loss to understand the meaning of certain terms in the late reports of the Secretary of the Treasury, thus explains the word Instrumentality, from Sam. Johnson's Dictionary. Instrumentality, from Sam. Johnson's Dictionary. as means to an end. Perhaps some of the members of the late Congress may give a more satisfactory definition.

There is now living near Prince Edward court house Virginia, a person named John Holloway, born in England in the year 1669. He left England in 1714, and arrived in Virginia. At the age of 67 he married a woman of 44, by whom he had a son now alive, aged 54. Holloway is now in the 124th year of his age, and in good health and spirits.
