The Banks.
The conduct of the banks towards the commercial interests is beginning to excite an intense feeling of hostility to the whole banking system—and many men of great influence are now openly talking of organising a party to destroy every bank charter in the nation—and to bury forever the system in its own corruptions.
We have some astounding disclosures to make of bank management, which we shall do in a few days. Unless the banks alter their policy and their principles, their whole system will be demolished by the indignation—not of the locofocos—but of the commercial and mechanic interests combined. It is time to speak plain. If we once begin to dissect the banks of Wall street, and to hold up their managers, they will find there is no back out in us. We do a cash business, and have more real, unquestioned popular power to cut up the banks than they have to molest us. The Wall street papers are conducted on the credit system, and dare not utter a word against their masters. The Herald is independent and fearless.
