HOHMANN WASN'T THERE.

Wilson's Missing Witness Resents an Ungenerous Imputation.

At Friday's "investigation" of the charges against the members of the board of public works ex-Superintendent Wilson intimated that one of his witnesses, Joe Hohmann, was not present because of some influence that had been brought to bear by Jesse Cochran to keep him away. Mr. Hohmann resents this imputation in a letter to the Post-Intelligencer, which reads as follows:

In today's Post-Intelligencer appears a publication which represents a boiling over of the city's "political pot." I feel it incumbent upon me to defend myself, as my name appears in a very unenviable light. It is true that I was a vigorous worker for the present administration and spent both time and money to enhance their political interests, and now receive my reward for faithful services by being paraded through the columns of the press as a man that can be "bought." I most emphatically protest against such unjust insinuations. I was absent from the city yesterday morning in my tobacco fields, and not absenting myself for either the convenience or inconvenience of any one else.

Joe Hohmann.
