Gov. Fannin To Lead Moore Day Parade

Oct. 21 has been proclaimed Billy Moore Day in Arizona by Gov. Paul Fannin.

The governor will lead the hour-long western parade which will kick off that day's activities at 11 a.m.

With the governor at the parade's head will be Louis Scarla, Grand Marshal, vice president of Salad Bowl Farms, produce division of A. J. Bayless Markets.

Other silver mounted parade riders who will be division marshals include Dr. J. Allen Ginn, Jr.; Mrs. Pearl Ginn, Joe Golden, Ann Scarla, George Hodges, and Roy Harelson. All are trophy winners in past Southwest parades including the Rose Bowl and Phoenix Jaycee Rodeo parades.

Other outstanding parade entries will include the Camp Verde Cavalry unit, the Arizona Palomino Association, the Westside Sheriff's Posse, St. John's Indian School Band, 541st USAF Band, Agua Fria and Tolleson Union High School bands, Black Canyon Saddle Club, and others.

Sheriff Cal Boise, Mrs. Ruth O'Neil of the board of supervisors, T. C. (Doc) Rhodes, and community officials will ride in the parade which will have more than 75 entries of floats, bands, and mounted units.

Parade route will be from Goodyear corner east on Western Avenue to Dysart Road, and north to the Agua Fria Union High School Grounds.

Parade chairman Jim Werner said trophies will be awarded for the following: Bands, best mounted unit, best commercial float, best adult civic float, best youth civic float, best authentic western vehicle, best individual male rider, best individual female rider, best individual child rider, most comical entry, best costume entry, and sweepstakes. Second and third place ribbons will also be awarded. Entries must be in to the Chamber of Commerce office by October 14, Werner said.
