FRUIT TREES.

We are sorry to hear from various quarters in Massachusetts, says the Boston Transcript, that serious apprehensions are entertained that there will be a scarcity of fruit the approaching season. We were informed, a few days since, by a Norfolk farmer, that the buds on very many of his fruit trees had turned black, and that the severe cold of the past winter had destroyed his hopes of an abundant harvest. We have observed several paragraphs in our exchange papers, expressing similar apprehensions. The Salem Observer, of this morning says, "We have been informed by a farmer in a neighboring town, who has hundreds of peach and pear trees, that he believes the destruction among them is almost general, and that his neighbors have met with the same fate. It will be recollected that trees grew rapidly the past season, and that owing to the protracted warmth of the autumn, the circulation of the sap continued late; to the abrupt setting in of very severe weather, while the trees were in this state and its long continuance, he ascribes the fatal effects. It will be found, in cutting into the bark of trees thus destroyed, that it has lost its greenness, and looks discolored and dead; this is a severe indication of the fate of the tree."
