Governor Clinton received from Col. Atkinson, commanding at the Council Bluffs on the Missouri, a barrel of seed corn of a peculiar species suited to this climate, which vegetates rapidly and ripens in ninety days from planting. The seed was obtained last year by Col. Atkinson from the Maha nation of Indians high up the Missouri and planted to raise grain for troops at the station. The yield was prodigious. Col.
