SEED CORN.—We learn that Governor Clinton has received from Col. Atkinson, commanding at the Council Bluffs, on the Missouri, a barrel of seed corn, of a peculiar species, and highly valuable, as being suited to this climate. It vegetates rapidly, and ripens in ninety days from planting. The seed of this corn was obtained last year by Col. Atkinson from the Maha nation of Indians, high up the Missouri, and was planted for the purpose of raising grain to support the troops at that station. The yield was prodigious—being at the rate of 100 bushels to the acre, on the burnt prairie lands, without ploughing, and with but two hoings. Col. Atkinson is entitled to much credit for his zeal in promoting the interests of his agricultural countrymen, and we hope his example will not be lost upon others who may have opportunities to render similar services.—Gov. Clinton, we are informed, has distributed this seed among the agricultural societies, and also among several individual agriculturists.
