SERMON
By REV. WALTER B. BROCK.
Faith and Fulfillment
John 4:50. The man believed the word
that Jesus spake unto him, and he
went his way.
Dwight L. Moody, we are told, was
once talking to a group of boys on a
Chicago street, trying to explain to
them the meaning of faith. He had a
beautiful book in his hand, and, hold-
ing it out to one of the boys, he said,
"This is yours if you take it." Most of
the boys laughed; the one to whom
the offer had been made, suspecting
that there was some catch in it, did
not take the book. Mr. Moody repeat-
ed his offer to the other boys. They
stood there, some giggling, some shy
and embarrassed. At last one boy
stepped forward and took the book
from Mr. Moody's hand. The other
boys were surprised, they wondered if
he would really be allowed to keep it.
"Of course", said Mr. Moody, "it is
his book. I offered it to anyone who
would take it, and this boy is the only
one who has the faith."
How many there are who live in
physical poverty, how many there are
who live in spiritual destitution, be-
cause they do not have the faith to ac-
cept the opportunities that come to
them. Our Heavenly Father is the
Giver of every good and perfect gift.
He offers you richly, all things to en-
joy. He does not even withhold from
us the unspeakable gift, His Son to
be our Savior. But how many, through
lack of faith, turn wistfully away
from the priceless treasure which is
ours, if we will but accept it.
