Attack on The Young Americans.—Last evening, as the 'Young American Guards' were marching through Sixth st., on the way to their armory, they were set upon by a party of Irish rowdies, assailed with stones, clubs, and other missiles. The ringleader began the attack by striking at Capt. Kennett, who immediately knocked him down; the fight then began in earnest; the young Americans showing the spirit of their fathers, stood up boldly to the attack. Finally the order to charge bayonets was given; and the mob routed. The young Americans then proceeded to their armory without further molestation. Thus we see the same spirit manifested here as in the Eastern cities, no American society can parade the streets without danger of an attack from Irish citizens; it is time something should be done to prevent them. We said a few days since, in speaking of the 'Young American Guards,' that they were composed of the right spirit, and they certainly showed great bravery and coolness last evening. Capt. Kennett is the son of our friend, Col. Jno. Kennett, a highly respectable and prominent merchant of this city. The young Americans wore the white 'Know Nothing' hats, and this is said to have caused the attack.
