A Land of Luxury. - The Matamoros Flag, a paper recently established in the city conquered by us from Mexico, describes the country in the vicinity of the town as a terrestrial paradise, where vegetation is spontaneous and perennial. Last month, a second crop of corn was in tassel, and other crops were just springing from the ground. Flowers were in bloom and others were blossoming. In brief, nature looked young and beautiful as in her spring-time, and the luxuries of a more Northern mid-summer crowded the tables of the citizens. Truly, a land of superfluities but the editor has not informed us how many were attenuated by fevers; how many, broken in health, tottered about his streets, or how many were weekly conveyed to the homes of the dead? Give us Mississippi, notwithstanding all this vain boasting, with her poorer lands, her higher degree of civilization and her healthier clime.
