Chamber of Commerce Supports
Biological Survey Plan;
Committees Named
Sentiment of the Rockville Chamber of Commerce was construed as supporting new projects for the community when this organization went on record last week at its monthly meeting as favoring the proposed Government Biological Survey unit which would be located on the Rockville pike between Bethesda and Rockville.
The delegates to the Montgomery County Civic Federation were instructed to support the project provided that nothing detrimental to the health and morale of the neighborhood would thereby be incurred. It is understood that this unit would be erected on a tract of 45 acres donated by a prominent citizen and that a healthy pay roll would be forthcoming.
Edgar Reed, a member of the Town Council, reported that Dr. Tabler and the State Roads Commission have placed the grade crossing project at the top of the list of contemplated improvements.
The members of the Chamber endorsed the greater incorporation of Rockville under the plan now being studied by the Town Council. The disposition of trash and garbage was referred to the proper committee for study. Morris Stern, vice president, occupied the chair for the greater part of the meeting.
A resolution endorsing the County Commissioners' action in accepting the Federal grant of $794,000 for schools, of which Rockville will get $50,000, was passed. Another resolution lowering the annual fees to $2.00 was referred to the next meeting as an amendment to the by-laws. Committee members were named as follows:
Membership and Publicity - Bernard T. Brosius, chairman; Carey Kingdon, Roger Shaw, Louis J. Ryan, Morris Stern, Townsend Howes and William Prettyman.
Public Utilities - Donald A. DeLashmutt, chairman; Judge Harold Smith, Bernard T. Brosius, Curtis Ward, Edgar Reed, Dr. George L. Edmonds, Milbourne Ward, Stedman Prescott, and Henry Ransom.
