BOSTON, June 3.

Advices from England by the last Ships are---That the Stamp-Bill is not only pass'd, but has a Provision that all breaches of said Act are cognizable by any of his Majesty's Courts of Admiralty; So that the Americans are not only to have their Monies taken from them without their Consent, but to be deprived of another darling Priviledge, viz. Trials by Jury.--That several Regiments are coming to America from Ireland. and a Bill had a first reading by which the Soldiery may be quarter'd upon private Families; and that Mr. -. had moved and obtained liberty to bring a Bill next Sessions, for laying a Tax upon the landed Estates in North-America, which will not much surprize the People of the Colonies, as indeed nothing can, after what has already taken Place. That instead of our present Courts of Admiralty, to which no Salaries are annexed, and so are no expence to the Crown, several new ones are to be erected in their Stead, and each Judge with a Salary of £. 800 Sterling per Annum out of the American Revenue, and other Officers in Proportion, it being no more than equal to the Importance of such Appointments, and the Ability of our Trade to furnish. — That the - has a Swarm of Scribblers employ'd to prejudice the Mother against her Children, and to colour Measures calculated to raise a Revenue and increase - Dependencies, tho' upon the utter Ruin of Trade--And that French Agents and French Monies are employed to set on foot Measures that may have a Tendency to alienate the Affections of the Colonies from their Mother Country, as the most probable Means of giving them a Chance in some future Period, to recover what has been taken from them by the Help and uncommon Exertions of those Infant Colonies. The Report that some Americans are to deliver Stamps to their fellow Slaves, put us in Mind of the W. India Policy, most of their Plantations having Negro Overseers, who, in order to please their Master . and hold their Posts, are more severe to their own Colour in their Exactions and Whippings than are the white Overseers, and consequently. are more abhorred and detested.

Outcome

stamp-bill passed with provisions for admiralty courts; regiments coming from ireland; bill for quartering soldiery on private families; proposed tax on landed estates in north-america; new admiralty courts with salaried judges funded by american revenue.

Event Details

Advices from England report the Stamp-Bill has passed, allowing breaches to be tried in Admiralty courts, depriving Americans of jury trials. Regiments are en route from Ireland, and a bill for quartering soldiers on private families had a first reading. A motion was made for a future bill taxing North American landed estates. New Admiralty courts with £800 salaries for judges from American revenue are to replace existing ones. Scribblers prejudice Britain against colonies, and French agents aim to alienate colonial affections. Analogy drawn to West India Negro overseers.
