Full Text
"He is a man so much more mischievous than the late Mr. Cobbett, his precursor in this itinerant dissemination of sedition and discontent, insomuch as his mode of addressing the mob and a populace is rendered more effective by a powerful and good voice, a very pleasant expression of countenance, and an air of pleasantry and good humor, of complacency with his hearers, which always act very extensively upon public assemblies. He is also the leader of a party, we might also say of a whole nation, and therefore possesses a weight and influence, and a public estimation founded upon his recognized importance, which in despite of superior abilities never belong to Mr. Cobbett. It is therefore, an obvious measure of defensive prudence to watch the course of this firebrand and, so far as may be possible, to extinguish the flame which he may kindle."
