Back in 1948 several young mothers of West Jefferson made the decision that something had to be done for the children of the community. They organized the first Mothers Club in West Jefferson and on July 13 became affiliated with the Ohio Child Conservation League. This movement was originated by Mrs. Everett Ellinger, who at that time was a newcomer from Kirkersville.
Today from this original movement, the area now has four such organizations that have done much and are still doing a great deal for the community of children.
The original club sponsored a tea in the club year of '54-'55 at the Methodist Church and invited all the mothers of the community to attend. From this eventful meeting the three following groups were formed.
