Full Text
When the French invaded Spain, we recollect to have expressed this sentiment, that we were somewhat consoled for their injustice of the act by the changes which might eventually grow out of it, that the state of Spain was so bad, that any Revolution must make it better. -- The anticipation is fulfilled. - Ferdinand is restored constitutionally to the throne; but he is to pledge himself, and to ratify that pledge by the most solemn oath, to rule according to the Constitution; and recognise, & respect the rights of the Cortes -- thus, some share of the government is given to the People, a little more liberty is introduced and some impulse is imparted to the public mind to think and improve on the subject of Politics.
Another advantage is, the abolition of the Inquisition -- and thus, more toleration will prevail, and the public mind will be more disenthralled from the shackles of superstition.
