Full Text

The "Potomac Rifle," under command of Maj. J. F. Hamtramck, visited our town on Thursday last. They came hither under a requisition from the Governor of the State through the Colonel of the Regiment, and were kept on duty until their departure on Friday. There were about sixty in number, in beautiful and appropriate uniform, and altogether presented a martial grandeur which called forth the unqualified admiration of all who witnessed them. Such a company is an honor to our county and to our State, and is highly creditable to the military spirit of the young men of Shepherdstown. They were accompanied by a fine Musical Band of that town.
