Last Wednesday Afternoon a Canoe, with two Men, having on board one Hogshead & a Tierce of Rum, in coming from Greenwich for this Place, was overset near Connecticut by a Squall of Wind, and one of them Mr. Joshua Aulger, of this Town, drowned. They had both got on the Bottom of the Canoe; but the Wind being high occasioned a great Swell: and he was washed off. The other, Mr. Caleb Bowen, with the utmost Difficulty remained on the Canoe all Night, the Sea continually breaking over him: but by holding on the Gunwale, he was providentially preserved, and in the Morning taken up almost spent, by a Boat from Newport.
