Let Us Invite Manufactures.
Col. Henry S. Hard and the Messrs. Canfield, of the Arlington car manufacturing company, were in town on Wednesday, looking over the property lately vacated by Messrs. O. T. Cross & Co., with a view of establishing a branch of their business at Rutland. We know not the result of their examination or negotiations, but trust they were favorably impressed with the location, as these gentlemen are just the class of people Rutland wants. The Messrs. Canfield and Hard are gentlemen of high standing in Bennington county, and have a wide reputation as enterprising and honorable business men. They have built up for the state an important manufacturing interest, one which will contribute to the welfare of any community in which they may carry it forward. Rutland should cordially welcome these gentlemen to its business circles, and extend every facility for carrying on and increasing their already large manufacturing interest. An enterprise of this character is just what Rutland needs. She will most gladly welcome any thing of that kind which may come. Burlington has organized an association for inviting manufacturers to that city, and for extending encouragement. Let Rutland proffer a ready and willing hand to all who desire to come within her borders, for the establishment of manufacturing enterprises, and especially to parties who are looking over the field with that object in view.
